Angus Fraser reveals Middlesex training base plan

Fraser believes Middlesex will benefit from having one training base

Director of cricket Angus Fraser has confirmed that Middlesex hope to set up a new training base at Radlett Cricket Club in Hertfordshire.

The county have applied for planning permission for the development.

But Fraser has stressed that the proposals did not mean Middlesex were moving away from Lord's.

"That is most certainly not the case," Fraser told BBC London 94.9: "The setting up at Radlett is more to do with practice and training facilities."

He added: "Lord's is extremely busy and the ground is hired out to companies over the summer.

"This means that there are a number of occasions where we struggle to get what we want here.

"It means that we as a county were scrambling around the clubs of Middlesex trying to find a venue for Owais Shah to get some decent practice and that's not right.

"We've had quite a nomadic existence as a county. We've used Lord's, Finchley, Southgate, Uxbridge, Richmond and Radlett.

"I think we need to have one venue where the players do feel that they are at home."
