Newman will bring plenty of experience to Middlesex's top order |
Opening batsman Scott Newman has left Surrey to join local rivals Middlesex on a three-year contract. The experienced 29-year-old left-hander averages in excess of 40 from 100 first-class appearances, and had been at Surrey for nine seasons. Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington said: "Scott has agreed to sign with us, ahead of other counties that have shown an interest in him. "Batsmen tend to improve with age, so Scott's best days are ahead of him." Newman, who spent much of the past summer on loan at Nottinghamshire, added: "After a difficult season in 2009, I am delighted to have signed a permanent contract with Middlesex. "I am relishing the opportunity of establishing my place within the Middlesex side and to playing some regular first-team cricket."
