Udal has taken over 700 first-class wickets in his career |
Former England off-spinner Shaun Udal has come out of retirement and signed a two-year contract at Middlesex. Udal, who announced his retirement in September after 20 years with Hampshire, had agreed to play for Minor Counties side Berkshire next season.
But the 38-year-old said: "Retirement in hindsight was the wrong choice for me and I've been given a great chance to continue doing something I love.
"I see no reason why we can't win something next season."
Udal cited a lack of opportunities because of Shane Warne's presence at Hampshire among his reasons for retiring from cricket.
He played his first one-day international for England in 1994, but did not make his Test debut until November 2005 at the age of 36.

Now in the twilight of his career he is determined to grab his last chance with both hands.
He said: "I'm delighted to be given this unexpected opportunity to extend my playing career at Middlesex and prove to people that I am still one of the best at what I do."
Middlesex director of cricket John Emburey said: "We are very fortunate to have gained the services of Shaun Udal. His experience, knowledge and match-winning capabilities will complement a very determined Middlesex team in 2008."
David Morris, the Berkshire manager, described the news as "disappointing for Berkshire", but he went on to say he could "completely understand how Udal found it impossible to turn down such an attractive offer."
