Mongia (R) can reflect on excellent stats with Lancashire |
Leicestershire have signed Indian batsman Dinesh Mongia as one of their overseas players for the 2005 season. The exciting 27-year-old Indian left-hander replaces Australian Brad Hodge. Australian seamer Mark Cleary stays on as the Foxes' second overseas signing.
In 2004, Mongia spent two separate spells with Lancashire, and in nine Championship innings averaged 67.14.
James Whitaker, Leicestershire's director of cricket, said: "Dinesh is a high quality player."
"With a very good record and an excellent attitude, we believe that he has the ability to contribute significantly on and off the field in 2005."
Mongia has played 48 one-day internationals for his country, with a highest score of 149 not out, but has a modest average of 27.78 in that form of the game.
He is also a useful left-arm spinner and was the most economical bowler in the country in the Twenty20 Cup competition.
