Lancashire's Championship specialist batsman Paul Horton has bemoaned a lack of chances in limited-overs cricket.

Horton, 25, has hit more than 700 runs for his county this season but has figured in just two one-day games.

The right-handed opener told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I think I can adapt and would enjoy it - I'd love not to have to grind out the new ball and have fun.

"I've never been given an opportunity - I've not played more than three games in a row so who knows if I can do it?"

The goal was to score more runs this year than last and if I get picked for the Academy then that's great

Lancashire batsman Paul Horton
"Four-day cricket is how I can showpiece what I can do, so for me scoring hundreds is my way of getting in one day games.

"I don't want to be happy with just plugging away with getting 30s and 40s," he continued.

The 2007 player of the season admitted he would love to earn a place in England's winter Academy squad but has refused to look too far ahead.

"If I can get over 1,000 runs this year then who knows?

"The goal was to score more runs this year than last and if I get picked for the Academy then that's great - it's something I'd love to do but it's also something I have no control over."
