Kent insist they can afford their overseas players

Kent

Kent's chief executive Jamie Clifford insists that bringing in overseas players Charl Langeveld and Wahab Riaz has not overstretched their budget.

At the start of the season Kent said that it was "unlikely" the club could afford to bring in an overseas player.

But, following the double signing, Clifford told BBC Radio Kent: "We've not gone out on a limb financially.

"It's a sensible commitment - albeit there's a real cost to it, so you have to think about these things carefully."

He added: "All the way along we said it was unlikely, but we never wrote it off completely and cricket management have been looking at it almost daily.

"I think we've been very sensible in how we've approached it.

"In all that we do at the moment - in terms of spending the club's funds - we are prudent. We just have to be sensible.

"I believe it was the right decision to be made at the time."

South Africa seam bowler Langeveldt has been brought in just for Kent's FL t20 campaign.

But Pakistan fast bowler Riaz is due to play all forms of the game over the next two months.

BBC Radio Kent have ball-by-ball commentary of all of the county's FL t20 games on 774mw, DAB and online.
