Coach Paul Farbrace critical of Kent bowlers

Farbrace's side play in Division Two of the County Championship this season

Kent coach Paul Farbrace blamed his side's bowlers for their innings defeat by Glamorgan in Cardiff.

Kent lost by an innings and eight runs - their fourth County Championship Division Two defeat in a row - and are bottom of the table.

"They certainly shoudn't have scored 400," Farbrace told BBC Radio Kent.

"We should have bowled them out for about 200. Although they played well, we bowled very poorly, our skill levels were not good enough."

After winning their first championship game of the season at Essex, Kent have now lost four successive matches, two of them by an innings.

Kent, who are also bottom of their Clydesdale Bank 40 group after winning one and losing two of their three matches, have only passed 300 in one of their 10 first-class innings so far and have conceded 400 three times.

Farbrace said: "We were desperate with the ball, there's no hiding it. We lost the game with the ball. Glamorgan certainly deserved to win the game, they outplayed us.

"People are pointing to our batting. Actually, I think our batting coped and got stuck in as best they could. It was our bowling that was desperate. We got what we deserved, which was nothing."

Kent's first choice strike bowlers are all currently on the treatment table. Robbie Joseph and Simon Cook are both out injured while Azhar Mahmood, whose appearances for the county tend to be more or less restricted to one-day games, is also currently ruled out.

Farbrace said the return of those three would improve the side.

"I'd have liked to have seen Robbie, Cooky and Azhar bowling on that wicket. They produced a wicket with grass on and they backed their seamers against our seamers," he added.

"They probably saw we had the worst attack Kent has ever put out last week against Northamptonshire. We had a schoolboy, a triallist and a lad on one leg.

"We desperately need our bowling resources back, and quick."

Kent are without a championship game next week and face Derbyshire at Canterbury in their next four-day match, starting on Tuesday, 24 May.
