Writer Brian Scovell upbeat over Kent's future

Kent

Cricket writer Brian Scovell says Kent's future should be secure despite their financial problems and recent relegation in the County Championship.

The Daily Mail's former chief cricket journalist, who lives in the county, told BBC Radio Kent: "They've got some good people in the club.

"I'm absolutely certain that the people of Kent won't let that great club die.

Scovell also said he would also like Rob Key to remain as captain despite his difficult time this year.

"There's a limited number of candidates who might take over," added Scovell.

"He's obviously had a number of worries this year but with his benefit next year it'd be a bit of a blow if he loses the job."

Kent are hoping to reveal the playing squad for next season as soon as possible.

With finances tight, Amjad Khan has already gone and there is speculation about the futures of senior players Martin van Jaarsveld and James Tredwell.
