Denly top scored with 67 on his one-day debut for England against Ireland
Kent coach Paul Farbrace says batsman Joe Denly must not be disappointed at being overlooked by England for the Test series in South Africa.
Denly, 23, has been named in the 16-man one-day squad but there was speculation he may get a chance at Test level.
"Some might say it's disappointing but I think it's magnificent that he's been picked for the one-day squad," Farbrace told BBC Radio Kent.
"It shows how much of an impact he's made on the England selectors."
Farbrace added: "It shows how quickly Joe has taken to international cricket that people are talking about him being in the Test squad.
"In the two big series, one against Australia, which was a poor series for England, he stood out as a real shining light and then in the ICC Champions Trophy he played his part.
"He looks at home in international cricket and I think everyone's delighted at Kent that he's in the one-day squad for the winter tour.
"We hope Joe goes on to cement his place, show people how good a player he is and then gradually work towards Test match status in the future."
Farbrace said he had hoped another Kent player - former England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones - would get another chance at international level after the best season of his career.
But the selectors instead opted for Surrey's uncapped gloveman Steven Davies as cover for Matt Prior.
"I think his performances with both bat and gloves for Kent in this last year have been outstanding," said Farbrace.
"Five hundreds from a wicketkeeper in County Championship cricket, batting at number three, he's been consistent throughout the year and I would like to think his name would have been discussed at selection.
"Whether it was or not we'll never know and obviously they've made their selections."
Denly will travel out to South Africa with the England team to start their winter tour in November.
