Former Kent captain David Fulton has announced his retirement from first-class cricket. Fulton, 35, was released at the end of last season after scoring more than 12,000 runs in 15 years with the club.
"I had a couple of options to go elsewhere, but it was a bit like being unfaithful," Fulton said.
"There are some good young players at Kent and I've been slipping down the pecking order. With the powers on the wane, I think it is time to go."
Fulton hit 155 against Middlesex in September in what turned out to be his final County Championship innings.
He enjoyed his most successful season in 2001 when he hit eight Championship centuries and came close to an England Test cap.
Former England skipper Nasser Hussain revealed in his autobiography that Fulton was initially chosen for the Headingley Test against Australia, but a change of heart led to Mark Butcher keeping his place in the side.
