The long-serving David Fulton has been loyal to Kent |
Kent opening batsman David Fulton has hinted he will retire if the county decline to offer him a fresh contract. Fulton, 34, has played 199 first-class games for the county, but was dropped for Kent's Championship match at Edgbaston starting on Wednesday.
The right-hander has scored 814 runs this season at an average of 33.91 - a better record than captain Rob Key.
Fulton said: "After almost 200 games for the club it would have been nice to go out on my own terms."
But, in an interview with the Kent Messenger, he added: "There is little place for sentiment in professional sport and I fully understand that.
"I have put a proposal to the club for next year because they are well aware I would love to put something back into the county.
"What comes of that I don't know as yet, but I wouldn't like to think my last shot in cricket was that poorly played pull that got me out against Sussex last week."
