Kyle McCallan took three wickets against Bangladesh 'A' |
Ireland romped to a comfortable 82-run victory over Bangladesh 'A' in Friday's Twenty20 international at Eglinton. Andre Botha was Ireland's top scorer, hitting 62 not out as the hosts reached 161 for six in their 20 overs. Bangladesh lost both openers with just five runs on the board and a superb fielding performance saw the visitors dismissed for 79 off 16.1 overs. Skipper Kyle McCallan took three wickets and had a part in one of the three run-outs. Ireland face Bangladesh again in a 50-over game at Bangor on Sunday. New Zealand and Scotland provide the opposition for one-day internationals on 1 and 2 July. Ireland coach Phil Simmons was fairly satisfied with his side's performance. "We started badly but the experience of Andre and Trent came through and 160 was always a good score. "We took some good catches, bowled in the right areas and hit the stumps a few times. We bowled and fielded like a team." Captain Kyle McCallan said he was "happy to step into the breach and captain the side" in the absence of William Porterfield. "We batted well, Andre Botha was good and we fielded superbly. Trent Johnston played well on his return to the side too," he said.
