Ireland to face Scots and Bermuda

Phil Simmons
Phil Simmons' Ireland have had a promising start to the season

Hosts and number one seeds Ireland will face Scotland and Bermuda in their group in the inaugural World Twenty20 qualifiers in Belfast in early August.

Kenya, Holland and Canada will be in Group B and the two eventual finalists will qualify for next year's World Twenty20 Cup in England.

The seedings were decided according to the one-day rankings on 2 February.

The qualifier will be the first time Ireland, Bermuda, Holland and Canada have played international Twenty20s.

Kenya and Scotland had their first experience of the format when they took part in the inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa last year.

There will be three matches a day in the competition from 2-4 August, all hosted at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast.

The opening game will be between Kenya and Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Ireland coach Phil Simmons has named a strong side for the forthcoming three-day game between Ireland A and Bangladesh A at College Park in Dublin from 23-25 June.

The teams will then play a 50-overs game at Bangor on 29 June and the tour finishes with another 50-over fixture featuring Ireland A on 1 July at Stormont.
