Opener Jimmy Adams has been appointed Hampshire captain for the forthcoming Caribbean Twenty20 competition.

The 15-man squad also includes FPt20 winners Sean Ervine, Michael Bates, Danny Briggs, James Vince, Chris Wood and Simon Jones.

Team manager Giles White said: "I'm sure he'll do a brilliant job. He's an excellent cricketer."

The Royals begin their campaign by taking on Canada in Antigua on Tuesday 11 January.

Adams takes on the job from FPt20 winning skipper Dominic Cork who is appearing on the ITV1 show 'Dancing on Ice' in the New Year. Club Captain Dimitri Mascarenhas is injured.

New signing Johann Myburgh will meet up with his new team-mates for the first time for the competition.

Batsman Tim Ravenscroft and wicketkeeper Adam Rouse have their first opportunity to join the senior squad.

Liam Dawson, Benny Howell, David Griffiths, Hamza Riazuddin and James Tomlinson make up the rest of the squad.

White added: "The squad we're taking to the Caribbean is a young one, but it's also a very exciting one with plenty of proven Twenty20 performers in it. There will also be some good new blood in there, bringing fresh ideas."

As well as Canada on 11 January 11, Hampshire take on Barbados two days later and The Leeward Islands on 15 January, all in Antigua.

They then fly to Barbados to complete their group matches against Trinidad and Tobago on 21 January.

The semi-finals and finals take place over the weekend of 21/22.
