Tahir will miss the Championship finale with Hampshire next week |
Hampshire are in negotiations to bring Imran Tahir back to the Rose Bowl for a full season next year. The Pakistan A leg-spinner, 29, has been a revelation since he arrived at the county in July, taking 36 wickets in six County Championship matches. "We need to speak to Titans, the South African side who hold his 12-month contract," acting manager Giles White told BBC Radio Solent. "We're pretty confident he'll return next year." Tahir was plucked from Northern League cricket in mid-season when the county had limited options on an overseas player to replace Shane Bond. "At this stage we're trying to agree terms with Tahir. We have to agree the terms of his contract with Titans," White added. "It's slightly complicated but we're confident we can sort something out in the near future." Tahir will not appear for Hampshire in their final County Championship match of the season at Nottinghamshire starting on 24 September as he has had to return to South Africa for the start of their season.
