Mascarenhas has played just once for the Rajasthan Royals |
Hampshire captain Dimitri Mascarenhas is likely to miss the latter stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. His side, the Rajasthan Royals, became the first team to reach the semi-finals after a win on Tuesday. The England all-rounder was keen to return to the IPL to play in the knockout stages at the end of May. But Mascarenhas has now told BBC Radio Solent that he would "probably not" be returning to the Jaipur-based IPL side, who are skippered by Shane Warne. Mascarenhas added: "Hampshire have two important games over the weekend, so we'll see how they go." The IPL semi-finals take place in Mumbai on 30 and 31 May, with the final on 1 June. But Hampshire have an important Championship match against Kent, starting on 30 May, and need points after failing to record a win in four-day cricket from four starts. So far, Mascarenhas has played in just one of the Rajasthan Royals' 11 matches after a short spell. He was only available for selection during an 11-day period at the start of May. On Tuesday, Mascarenhas skippered Hampshire to a four-wicket win against Worcestershire in the Friends Provident Trophy at the Rose Bowl.
