Stewart Walters had a year left on his Surrey deal before leaving
Glamorgan have signed Australian right-hand batsman Stewart Walters on a two-year deal.
The 27-year-old left Surrey in January 2010 by mutual consent after spending four years at the county which he captained from late 2009.
"This is a second chance for me and something I want to grab with both hands and fulfil my potential," Walters told BBC Sport Wales.
"I've got a lot to prove... and Glamorgan's going to benefit from it."
Walters is currently back home in Australia, but will join up with the Glamorgan squad ahead of their pre-season tour to South Africa.
His signing is expected to be the last ahead of the new season which starts on Friday, 8 April.
"With Stewart's signature, the squad for 2011 is now complete," said new coach Matthew Mott.
"Along with the new captain Alviro Petersen, we have, in effect, two new bowlers in Graham Wagg and Adam Shantry and now two new batsmen in Mike O'Shea and Walters.
"There is also an opportunity for existing players who played little last year to make their mark, as well as the younger players, who are now another year older and wiser, to push through.
"I continue to be in touch on a regular basis with the cricketing staff and am looking forward to joining up with the players as soon as my commitments in Australia are complete."
And Glamorgan's managing director of cricket, Colin Metson, believes Stewart will give more to the squad than just batting.
"We are delighted Stewart has joined Glamorgan, he is a talented and experienced cricketer, who can achieve his undoubted potential here in Wales," said Metson.
"He comes highly recommended from a number of strong sources. He will strengthen the batting in both formats of the game and add to both the fielding unit and professionalism at the club."
