Seamer David Harrison made his first-class debut for Glamorgan in 1999

Fast bowler David Harrison is expected to miss the start of Glamorgan's season as he manages a troublesome hip injury.

The 29-year-old seamer has undergone scans and medical experts have told Harrison to rest for six weeks - most of which will be spent on crutches.

Harrison will miss Glamorgan's pre-season training camp to South Africa.

So the Glamorgan stalwart will struggle to be fully fit for their County Championship Division Two opener at Leicestershire on 8 April.

Harrison, who made his first-class debut for the Welsh county in 1999, was not among Glamorgan's chief wicket-takers last season as they narrowly missed out on County Championship promotion.

The former England academy right-arm bowler took 37 wickets with an average of 31.24 runs last year as Harrison played 12 out of Glamorgan's 16 Championship matches.

The Panteg Cricket Club product, who last year signed a new Glamorgan contract to keep him at the Swalec Stadium until 2012, was sidelined for the whole of 2007 following back surgery.
