Seamer James Harris has spent all of his career with Glamorgan

Director of cricket Matthew Maynard has lauded seam bowler James Harris, who became the youngest Glamorgan player to take 100 first-class wickets.

Swansea-born Harris reached the milestone taking the second of his 5-56 as Maynard's side beat Worcestershire by nine wickets inside two days.

Harris, who was 19 years and 347 days old, beats Robert Croft who reached 100 wickets when 22 years and 32 days old.

"He's a very bright prospect and he'll have a very long career," said Maynard.

Harris signed a contract with Glamorgan at the age of 15 and captained England Under-16 side.

He county debut came at 17 in the County Championship defeat to Nottinghamshire in May 2007 where he took two wickets.

But it was his second match, a draw at Gloucestershire, where Harris first made a name for himself.

His 12 wickets for 118 saw him become the youngest player to take 10 or more wickets in a County Championship match.

A month later, he became Glamorgan's youngest scorer of a half century with an unbeaten 87 against Nottinghamshire.

Harris' development has continued apace since then, and he was rewarded by a call-up to the England Lions team which took on Australia last summer.

And in January, he spent 10 days in India at Dennis Lillee's bowling academy as one of four England development players under the wing of the Australia Test legend.

"One of the goals I set this season was to get 100 before was 20 which happens on 16 May so I've done that with some time to spare," said Harris.

"More importantly, I'm very pleased for the lads as it was a very good win and a very good performance in the end.

"I think we only won a couple of games last season and to win two already in April is a very good achievement.

"We're playing some exciting cricket at the moment."
