Seamer David Harrison took a career best 7-45 as Glamorgan took control against Worcestershire on the first day of their County Championship Two match.

The hosts won the toss at New Road and opted to bat first, but slumped to 134 all out as Harrison let rip.

Opener Daryl Mitchell and captain Vikram Solanki fell quickly to Harrison who then polished off the tail.

"I've worked pretty hard over the winter and... it's a great feeling to get those rewards," Harrison said.

"Early season the pitches we've had so far, with three games in April, have offered a little bit of help to the seamers and I'm pretty pleased I've been able to take advantage of those conditions.

"I'm very proud of this today, really happy."

Harrison's haul at New Road beat the 5-48 he took against Somerset in Swansea in 2004.

As well as the hard work in the gym, Harrison attended the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai under the tutelage of Australian pace great Dennis Lillee.

"It was really good training out there and there were some really good things that I've used so far this season that I've worked on, which Dennis has given me some help there.

"So I've just had to put all those things into practice and luckily for me they've [the batsmen] nicked them or missed them and I've had the wickets."

Fellow Glamorgan bowler James Harris also benefited from Lillee's advice in the off-season and provided good support to Harrison, taking 2-50 from his 15 overs, with Jim Allenby taking the other Worcester wicket.

At close of play Glamorgan had reached 228-4 in reply, a lead of 94 with six first-innings wickets in hand.
