Robert Croft took 56 first-class wickets for Glamorgan in 2009 |
Off-spinner Robert Croft could be a doubt for the start of Glamorgan's season after picking up a back problem. Croft twinged his back in pre-season training, but the county are hoping to get him fit for their opening match against Sussex on 9 April. "He has a back tweak and he has not fully recovered yet," said Glamorgan's director of cricket Matthew Maynard. "Hopefully he will be available for selection for the first game. We are kind of precautionary at the minute." Maynard added: "He was bowling quite nicely [in the nets yesterday] and then he felt it twinge again." But the county are confident of getting their former England performer, who turns 40 in May, back on the field within the next three weeks. "We have got a brilliant medical staff here - Dean Conway [physiotherapist] and Rob Ahmun [strength and conditioning coach] - in terms of fitness and recovery," insisted Maynard. "We have just had the reports back from the ECB [England and Wales Cricket Board]. We are the best county for injury prevention and getting injured players back over the last few years. "So if anyone can get him fit it's Dean Conway and his team." Glamorgan have arranged three pre-season friendlies in March against Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire before Sussex arrive at the Swalec Stadium for the opening LV County Championship match.
