Shaw has been promoted from the second XI |
Adrian Shaw has replaced John Derrick as Glamorgan coach. Derrick has paid the price for two successive dismal seasons which brought relegation from the top flight of the Championship and the National League.
Glamorgan say they are hopeful they will find an alternative role for Derrick within Welsh cricket.
Shaw, who was coach of Glamorgan's second XI last season, will be assisted by former bowler Steve Watkin in his new role of performance director.
"We have spent a lot of time looking at the coaching structure," said Glamorgan chief executive Mike Fatkin.
"We've had a couple of disappointing seasons and it was felt that some changes were necessary.

"Adrian will bring a fresh energy to the coaching of the First XI, working alongside [captain] David Hemp.
"And we are keen to develop Steve Watkin's role at the Club so that he is responsible for wider performance matters and also in doing more work with the first team squad.
"We are very keen to ensure that John Derrick's talents as a coach are not lost to the game in Wales and we are continuing our discussions with him about potential alternative roles.
"We will make an announcement on that when those discussions have been concluded."
Derrick is arguably the most successful coach in Glamorgan's history.
He led the Dragons to the National League title in 2002 and 2004 - the same year as winning promotion to Division One of the County Championship and reaching the Twenty20 finals day.
But Glamorgan were relegated after just one season in the top flight of the Championship as they lost 14 out of 16 matches.
They found Division Two equally tough going last season as they managed just two victories and dropped from the top tier of the Pro40 League.
The poor results brought a change of captain in September as David Hemp replaced Robert Croft, and now the Welsh county have opted for coaching shake-up as well.
Shaw scored 2665 first-class runs in 11 seasons as wicket-keeper at Sophia Gardens.
