Friendly, Sophia Gardens, day three: Glamorgan (first innings forfeited) 303-5 drew with Cardiff UCCE (first innings forfeited) 148-5
England seamer Simon Jones enjoyed his first serious workout of the season as Glamorgan drew with Cardiff UCCE.
Jones missed England's tours to Pakistan and India with ankle and knee problems and was frustrated by rain on the first two days at Sophia Gardens.
But he bowled with good pace on day three and finished with figures of 1-23 from nine overs.
"It felt good. The ball was coming out well and I was generating some pace on a slow pitch," said Jones.
"It's given me some confidence for the C&G Trophy game at Chelmsford (on Sunday) where I'm hoping to take the new ball."
Jones, who was a key figure in England's Ashes win last summer, hopes to be fit for the first Test against Sri Lanka on 11 May at Lord's.
In Cardiff, the sides forfeited their first innings before Glamorgan racked up 303-5 in 50 overs and the students closed on 148-5.
Michael Powell (90 not out), Mark Wallace (46 not out) and Richard Grant (53) were in the runs for the county side.
Wallace's knock came from 29 balls and 22 of his runs came in the final four balls of the innings, when he dispatched Aaron Shingler for three sixes over long-on and a four.
