Jones frustrated by Cardiff rain
Simon Jones
Jones missed the tour of Pakistan and came home early from India
England paceman Simon Jones was left kicking his heels as rain wiped out day one of Glamorgan's match with Cardiff UCCE at Sophia Gardens on Wednesday.

Jones is desperate for match practice before the first Test against Sri Lanka on 11 May after a knee injury forced him to leave the India tour early.

"It was frustrating not to be able to get out there but the weather is always unreliable at this time of the year.

"I'm not going to bust a gut in these early games," the 27-year-old said.

"I'm going to ease my way back in at three-quarter pace and let the odd one go.

"I've got to get some overs under my belt, take some wickets and prove I'm fit enough to play."

Jones missed the whole of the Pakistan tour with an ankle injury and twisted his knee during a warm-up match for the first Test in India.

"It's been a long, frustrating winter and it will be good just to get back on the field," he admitted. "It was a kick in the teeth - one injury after another, and it was hard to grasp.

"I worked hard to get back from the ankle injury and then I twisted the knee in a foothole. I just hope this streak comes to an end because I need a bit of luck."

"I will do everything in my power to try to take wickets for Glamorgan and get back into the England side. I'll play the first couple of games and see how it goes from there."
