Glamorgan have decided against recruiting an overseas replacement for the injured Matthew Elliott. Elliott's knee problem will keep him out for the rest of the season.
But with Glamorgan struggling in the Championship and Totesport League, chief executive Mike Fatkin says the club need to be "pragmatic".
"We can't guarantee a replacement would make a difference now, but in the long term we will go into next season with two overseas players," said Fatkin.
"We have already offered Matthew a contract for next year.
"We will use the remainder of the season to continue finding out about our more inexperienced cricketers with a view to being in a much stronger position to challenge in 2006."
The Welsh county's other overseas signing, Sourav Ganguly, is due to leave at the end of July.
Ganguly's stay may be extended if India fail to get his six-match international suspension reduced or overturned.
