Century no consolation to Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly says his first Glamorgan century brought little joy as the team slipped to their sixth defeat in seven Championship games.

The Indian captain scored 69 in the first innings against Kent at Cardiff and a superb 142 in the second, but the Welsh county still lost by 10 wickets.

"The team haven't played well, batting and bowling were bad," he told the BBC.

"This is a young side but we have to keep backing them and make them believe that they're good enough to do well."

The 31-year-old, who will be at Sophia Gardens for another month and a half, conceded that it would be difficult to avoid relegation from the Championship.

The easy solution is to get rid of one or two people at the top, but it's not the right solution

Despite that, he says that coach John Derrick and captain Robert Croft have the full backing of the dressing room.

"Everyone's behind the coach and captain," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"The easy solution is to get rid of one or two people at the top, but it's not the right solution.

"This is a team sport and I'm sure we can turn it round for Crofty and John, who put such massive efforts in for the boys.

"We will have Alex Wharf back to fitness next week and I'm sure he will make a real difference."

Derrick was able to take some comfort from Ganguly's form.

"Sourav's been excellent and the other guys have to take spirit from that," said the coach.

"We'll keep fighting and look forward to next week and finding a way to improve."
