Elliott hails Kasprowicz

Matthew Elliott fears he will see little of Glamorgan team-mate Michael Kasprowicz this coming season.

Elliott, who has rejoined the Welsh county after a four year absence, says Kasprowicz's one-day form for Australia could win him a place in the Test team.

The fast bowler produced a career best one-day performance when he took 5-45 in last week's win over Sri Lanka.

"He's been the stand-out bowler in Australia domestic cricket. I'm not surprised he's doing well," he said.

"He's a terrific player. He's done very well for Queensland and Glamorgan and it's fantastic to see him doing so well for Australia at the moment.

"I've been surprised over the years he hasn't played more (for Australia). But if he keeps going the way he is, we might not see that much of him at Glamorgan."

Elliott is also playing some of the best cricket of his career.

He is the second highest run scorer in domestic Australian first-class cricket this season.

So when Glamorgan needed to replace fellow Australian left-hand batsman Jimmy Maher, Elliott's name was brought quickly to their attention.

"I hadn't made plans for the winter," Elliott told BBC Wales Sport. "I had a talk with a few people (from Glamorgan) over the last week and when the opportunity came it was too good to knock back.

"It's been one of those summers where everything has been hitting the middle of the bat and the ones that haven't I've played and missed at.

"So it's been a good summer here and I'm surprised and delighted to be coming back to Wales in a few months time."
