Maher smashes Aussie record
Jimmy Maher
Maher lit up The Gabba with some astounding strokeplay
Glamorgan batsman Jimmy Maher set a new Australian one-day record with an innings of 187 off 129 balls.

He hit three sixes and 26 fours as his Queensland side piled up 405-4 in their day-night ING Cup game against Western Australia in Brisbane.

Maher shared an opening stand of 194 in 22 overs with Stuart Law, who made 95 off 69 balls.

Queensland eventually won the game by 207 runs after bowling out their opponents for 198.

Maher will rejoin Glamorgan this summer, along with fellow Australian Michael Kasprowicz, after losing his place in the international one-day squad.

He made a point to the selectors by reaching three figures from only 84 deliveries and passed the previous record of 167, by Western Australia's Murray Goodwin, when he reached 168.

Maher only gave one chance during his innings and ironically it was Goodwin who dropped him at cover on 105.

Queensland's total was also an Australian record and they were soon on top with the ball when Maher caught Justin Langer for nought in Andy Bichel's opening over.

He took further catches during Western Australia's innings to dismiss Mike Hussey (66) and Goodwin (18).
