Essex won promotion to the first division of the County Championship last summer

Essex County Cricket Club will tour Barbados in March as preparation for the 2010 season.

The Division One newcomers will spend two weeks in the Caribbean, where they will play a mixture of Twenty20, 40-over and two-day matches.

In the two-week tour they will play Derbyshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Chief Executive David East said: "Having seen the excellent facilities in Barbados, we're delighted to be going to the Caribbean this year."

He added: "The club pre-season tour is becoming an increasingly important part of our preparation for the new domestic season."

Essex fly out to Barbados on 12 March and will return on 25 March, in time for a two-day friendly against Worcestershire in Chelmsford six days later.
