Foster has not played for his country in six years |
Essex wicket-keeper James Foster insists the ambition to play for England still burns within him. The 28-year-old has been enjoying a good season for his county both with the bat and behind the stumps. He played seven Tests for England in 2001 and 2002, making his debut at the age of 21, but has not played international cricket since then. "I want to play for England and haven't give up hope but it doesn't dominate my thoughts," he told BBC Essex. The England wicket-keeping position has come under scrutiny again with calls from some quarters for Matt Prior to replace Tim Ambrose. But Foster has also been pressing his claims with a batting average of over 40. He said: "The best way for me to get back into the England frame is to do well with Essex. "I'm enjoying my cricket and I think that's showing in my performances but as far as England goes if it happens it happens but it won't sway me from wanting to be successful with Essex."
