Dexter feels Essex can fight back

On-loan Essex batsman Neil Dexter said the side could return to winning ways in the Twenty20 Cup, following their seven-wicket defeat to Middlesex.

Dexter's 46 runs was one of the few highlights for the visitors, but he acknowledged that fortunes could turn around quickly in the competition.

"Obviously everyone's heads are down, but the best way to deal with it is how you bounce back," he told BBC Essex.

"If we can get a win on Sunday then everyone's views will change."

He added: "Obviously the boys let us down with the batting - it's always hard to come back when you've scored 115.

"We lost wickets at some crucial stages and it's hard to get a partnership going from there."

Despite the loss, the 23-year-old was pleased with his own performance in his second match for Essex since joining on a month's loan from Kent.

"It's always nice to get in and score some runs," he said. "But there's still a long way to go in the season and hopefully I'll score a few more."
