Gibson's 10-wicket haul was the first in the Championship for 13 years |
Durham all-rounder Ottis Gibson said luck was on his side as he claimed all 10 Hampshire wickets on Sunday. "It's something I never thought I would do - it's fantastic," the 38-year-old, who ended with 10-47, told BBC Sport.
"The gods were on my side. I had breaks at the right times and everything just went my way - it was just my day."
Gibson picked up the first two wickets in Hampshire's second innings on Monday to extend his haul to 12 before Graham Onions broke end his stunning spell.
The former West Indies international claimed his 11th and 12th wickets of the match by dismissing Michael Carberry and John Crawley.
But the 13th wicket proved unlucky as his team-mate Onions accounted for Michael Lumb.
Gibson said he never expected to end with all 10 wickets in Hampshire's first innings.

"Up to the point we got eight wickets I didn't allow myself to think I could because I was getting tired," he said before Monday's play.
"When we came out after the rain break I said to the captain to let Liam Plunkett have a bowl.
"He said 'no mate, you've got eight wickets and it's not every day you've got an opportunity to get 10', so I had to go for it.
"I was straight onto the physio's bed to get a massage on my legs and then back out.
"We had about an hour and half to lunch and I bowled for that hour and a half. I had a 40 minute break for lunch and then came back out and bowled again.
"As I was getting tired after the lunch the rain came again, which gave me another hour's rest and in the meantime I kept taking wickets."
Gibson only returned to top-flight cricket in 2004 after three years working solely as a coach while struggling with a series of niggling injuries.
His 10-wicket haul was the first in the Championship since Richard Johnson ran through the card in 1994.
