 | Perhaps we half-expected that we had won the game |
Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris says his side's one-day efforts are not of the required standard. Derbyshire lost to Essex in Monday's Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture despite posting a daunting total of 299-7. Essex, chasing a revised total of 247, sealed a five-wicket win largely thanks to Ryan ten Doeschate's unbeaten 109. "If that's how good we are then I'm afraid it's not good enough. In one-day cricket we need to step it up a bit more," Morris told BBC Radio Derby. "We played some very good cricket and lost but when you don't execute your skills well enough with the ball and one player comes hard at you with the bat and you don't answer him back that's what happens. "Ryan ten Doeschate is a very good player and he has done it to us again but I do believe that we have let him do it. "We were brilliant with the bat, we got a very defendable total but were unable to defend it with the ball. "If you get 300 on the board in 40 overs then you have played well but you should be able to defend it. I think perhaps we half-expected that we had won the game but we didn't. "We've lost two on the bounce. And at the moment we have a lot of had work to do. Fortunately we have two games coming up in quick succession and they are very important."
