CLYDESDALE BANK 40, Leek: Essex 248-5 beat Derbyshire 299-7 by five wickets (D/L method) Essex 2pts Match scorecard
Ten Doeschate also picked up 2-66 with the ball |
Ryan ten Doeschate's unbeaten 109 helped Essex to a five-wicket Clydesdale Bank 40 win over Derbyshire on the Duckworth-Lewis method at Leek. Chasing a revised target of 247 from 30 overs, the visitors looked to be in trouble at 64-4. But ten Doeschate's 62-ball effort, with five fours and eight sixes carried them home with 16 balls to spare. Earlier Derbyshire had racked up 299-7 - their highest ever score in 40-over cricket - Wayne Madsen making 66. That surpassed the 292-9 scored against Worcestershire - also in Staffordshire - at Knypersley in 1985. Rain at tea revised Essex's target and they looked set to fall short when Alastair Cook, Mark Pettini, Billy Godleman and Grant Flower all went cheaply. But ten Doeschate shared 97 with Jaik Mickleburgh (34) in 11 overs and an unbroken stand of 87 in just six overs with James Foster (31 not out) to see Essex home.
