Former Warwickshire all-rounder Graham Wagg will return from his year-long drugs ban with Derbyshire next season. The former England A player, 22, tested positive for cocaine in September 2004 but his suspension ends in January and he has signed a one-year contract.
"I am delighted to have signed for Derbyshire and been given the chance to get my career back on track," he said.
"I have taken my punishment and used the time to think hard about what I want to do with my life and my career."
Wagg represented England at every level from under-16 through to the A team's tour to Malaysia and India in 2003/4
He has been in South Africa and Holland during his time out of the game, coaching and staying fit. He has also undergone six voluntary drug tests.
Derbyshire are believed to have fought off interest from a number of counties, including Warwickshire, for his signature.
"Throughout our discussions Graham has been very honest about the mistake he made, something he regrets a great deal," said Derbyshire chief executive Tom Sears.
"He has a real hunger and determination to get his career back on track and fulfil his potential.
"I am sure he has learnt a great deal from what he has been through and he deserves credit for the way he has conducted himself since the incident."
