COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Bristol: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Surrey 186 & 55-2, Glos 106-5 dec Glos 3pts Surrey 1pt Match scorecard
An early declaration on 106-5 by Gloucestershire set up the prospect of a result at Bristol. With no play possible on day two, Surrey moved from 112-3 to 186 all out, with Jon Lewis (3-25) the pick of the home side's bowlers. Chris Tremlett's 4-29 made life difficult for Gloucestershire who saw William Porterfield top score with 54. The home side then decided to make a game of it with a surprise declaration before Surrey finished on 55-2. Kevin Pietersen's hopes of building a confidence-boosting innings were dashed in the first over when he fended a ball from Gemaal Hussain to Chris Dent without adding to his first-day score of 40. That set the tone for the day as only Rory Hamilton-Brown (40) and Gary Wilson (34) made any impression on the Gloucestershire attack. Tremlett's efforts prevented Gloucestershire making any significant progress before the declaration. Surrey lost Jason Roy and Mark Ramprakash to Lewis and Anthony Ireland before the close.
