CLYDESDALE BANK 40 GROUP C, Edgbaston: Warwickshire 194-3 (36.5 ovs) beat Nottinghamshire 192 (38.4 ovs) by seven wickets Match scorecard
Trott has passed 50 five times in seven CB 40 innings this summer |
Jonathan Trott returned from England duty to help Warwickshire into the semi-finals of the CB 40 with victory over Nottinghamshire at Edgbaston. Adam Voges was Notts' top scorer with 54 as the visitors were bowled out for 192 in the 39th over. But Trott and England colleague Ian Bell (50) helped the Bears to 194-3 and a comfortable seven-wicket victory. Trott was unbeaten at the end on 84, taking his tally of CB 40 runs for the season to 443 in seven innings. It was the Bears' ninth win in 12 group games, confirming their place at the top of Group C - but it was not enough to earn a home semi-final next weekend. Instead, Somerset won again to join Yorkshire as the hosts for the two semi-finals. Although Trott and Bell, playing his first game since breaking a metatarsal in one-day international against Bangladesh, saw the Bears to the brink of victory, much of the hard work had been done with the ball by Imran Tahir. Making his last home appearance for the county before rejoining Hampshire next summer, the Lahore-born leg-spinner claimed the crucial wickets of Adam Voges and Chris Read after the only half-century partnership of the Notts innings on the way to taking 4-27.
