 Du Toit's 122 runs came off 160 balls |
Leicestershire drew with Surrey after an exciting final day at Grace Road. Resuming on 32-0, Leicestershire declared their first innings on 123-0, with Surrey agreeing to forfeit their second knock. Set 361 to win, Jacques du Toit hit 122 and Paul Nixon 106 to lead the Leicestershire run chase. But after Du Toit fell with the score on 292-4, Leicestershire lost momentum and ultimately ended up settling for the draw on 338-8. Leicestershire set aside off-field troubles to knuckle down to a spirited run chase off 76 overs. Nixon and Du Toit manoeuvred the home team into a strong position, adding 183 in just 36 overs. When Du Toit was finally dismissed, they required only 69 off 12 overs. However, tight bowling from Chris Tremlett, Gareth Batty and Jade Dernbach put the brakes on Leicestershire's efforts, while taking four further wickets. With 11 balls remaining, Nadeem Malik and Nathan Buck opted for a safety first approach and batted out the draw.
