County Championship leaders Nottinghamshire were frustrated by the rain as day three of their match with Lancashire was washed out.

The players will return to Trent Bridge for the final day with the hosts 178-4 in reply to Lancashire's 319.

Nottinghamshire opener Alex Hales will resume 87 not out, with captain Chris Read unbeaten on 35.

Notts began the game four points ahead of Somerset and six ahead of Yorkshire, with a game in hand on both.

However, the weather does not look like having an adverse affect on Notts' title bid, with the rain having ruined Yorkshire's game with Hampshire and Somerset's clash with Durham.
