COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire 328 beat Warwickshire 121 & 152 by an innings and 55 runs Notts 22pts, Warwicks 3pts Match scorecard Nottinghamshire's Andre Adams (l), Chris Read, David Hussey and Alex Hales celebrate the wicket of Warwickshire's Rikki Clarke
Ryan Sidebottom took eight wickets as Nottinghamshire bowled Warwickshire out twice on day two to seal victory by an innings and 55 runs. Warwickshire had resumed at Trent Bridge on 13-0 but collapsed to 121 all out, a first innings deficit of 207. Sidebottom took 3-37 but was upstaged by Andre Adams (4-14) and Paul Franks (3-15) as Notts enforced the follow on. But the England paceman then picked up 5-35 as the County Championship leaders skittled the Bears again for 152. Bottom-of-the-table Warwickshire's batsmen were no match for Notts' seam attack, with Varun Chopra the only batsman to pass 21 in either innings, compiling 54 second time around before being bowled by Sidebottom, while Tim Ambrose collected a pair. Indeed, such was Nottinghamshire's mastery of the conditions with the ball that in the Bears' first innings Adams sent down nine maidens and bowled 52 deliveries before conceding a run off the bat. And in their second innings they found Sidebottom too hot to handle as he claimed his best figures for Notts in four years. | 606: DEBATE |
It was Sidebottom who started the fall of wickets, enticing visiting skipper Ian Westwood to edge behind. Darren Maddy then edged Adams to slip before he trapped both Chopra and Jim Troughton leg before. Franks, who followed Adams' lead by bowling six straight maidens, removed Rikki Clarke and Ateeq Javid, before Sidebottom claimed the scalps of Ambrose and Keith Barker. And with Imran Tahir and Boyd Rankin offering little resistance, the follow-on was a formality. Sadly for Warwickshire, it was an all-too familiar tale as they were dismissed in just one session. Westwood and Maddy again fell cheaply and although Chopra battled away for his first half-century of the summer, once he was dismissed by a Sidebottom yorker the Bears folded. Clarke lost his off-stump to Sidebottom two balls later, Troughton edged to Read, Ambrose was trapped lbw first ball and Javid was bowled leaving the ball for the second time in the day, and Barker was caught behind. Notts claimed the extra half hour and wrapped things up with an over to spare as Franks bowled Tahir and Chris Woakes slashed to second slip.
