Davies joined Surrey from his native Worcestershire at the end of 2009 |
Surrey's Steven Davies frustrated his former Worcestershire team-mates during a slow second day's play in the County Championship match at New Road. Davies scored 68 as Surrey recovered from 73-3 to finish on 259, conceding a first innings lead of 49. Matt Mason took 3-60 and all-rounder James Cameron followed his first innings 95 with 2-30. Openers Daryl Mitchell and David Wheeldon then survived until the close, which came with Worcestershire on 13-0. Davies added 88 with 19-year-old Tom Lancefield for Surrey's fourth wicket. Lancefield, in only his fourth Championship match, completed a maiden 50 from 127 balls and Davies reached 1,000 runs in a season for the third time. Since changing counties, the England Lions wicketkeeper has made at least 50 in each of his four innings against Worcestershire for an aggregate of 355 runs in two competitions at an average of 118.33. Shakib Al Hasan knocked Surrey off course when Lancefield played down the wrong line after hitting a dozen fours in his 74. And the Bangladesh all-rounder also accounted for Stewart Walters (21) with a catch at mid-on by Cameron.
