FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Headingley: Yorkshire 162-3 beat Nottinghamshire 158-7 by seven wickets Match scorecard
Ales Hales hit his maiden first-class century against Hampshire last month |
Yorkshire gave their hopes of a place in the FP t20 last eight a boost with a seven-wicket win over North Group leaders Nottinghamshire at Headingley. Alex Hales hit 62 to take his Twenty20 campaign haul to 290 in nine innings as Notts ran up a competitive 158-7. But the Tykes made short work of that, making 162-3 as they won with 10 balls to spare to go second in the group. Adam Lyth top scored with 43, before Anthony McGrath(38no) and Gerard Brophy (31no) saw their side to victory. Notts remain top, three points clear of Yorkshire, who leapfrog five places up to second in the table. It was Yorkshire's third consecutive FP t20 victory in the space of seven days. And Yorkshire got there at a canter as man-of-the-match McGrath, who had earlier picked up a wicket in four accurate overs and also held a catch, enjoyed an unbroken stand of 61 with Brophy. Yorkshire are again at home on Sunday against Leicestershire in a game brought forward to an early start time (1100 BST) at Headingley because of England's World Cup clash with Germany. Notts too have switched their Sunday fixture with another quarter-final chasing side Warwickshire at Trent Bridge (also 1100 BST).
