Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel returned to form as the Division One leaders played out a draw with Kent at Tunbridge Wells.

Patel, who had scored 128 runs in his six previous first-class matches this season, made an unbeaten 76.

His effort helped Notts to 210-3 in their second innings, a lead of 102, when the draw was agreed.

Earlier, Kent's first innings finally closed on 570, Darren Stevens falling for 197 and Andre Adams taking 5-106.

After Kent resumed on 478-6, Stevens had added 16 to his overnight score when he drove loosely and got an inside edge through to wicketkeeper Chris Read to complete Adams' first five-wicket haul in the Championship for Notts.

Malinga Bandara (29) and Simon Cook (26) then shared a ninth-wicket stand of 53 before Paul Franks (2-75) ended the Kent innings.

The visitors lost young opener Alex Hales, caught at deep mid-wicket off Matt Coles, moments before lunch but Patel and Mark Wagh (34) made hay in the afternoon session with a second-wicket stand of 105.

Wagh was bowled playing back to a turning ball from James Tredwell and David Hussey (22) missed a sweep off Malinga Bandara to allow Steven Mullaney to plunder 48 from 47 balls before stumps were drawn.
