Nottinghamshire punished by Kent batsman Darren Stevens
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Tunbridge Wells: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Nottinghamshire 462, Kent 478-6 Notts 6pts, Kent 8pts Match scorecard
Stevens hit 23 fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 181
Darren Stevens hit an unbeaten 181 to give Kent a first-innings lead over Division One leaders Nottinghamshire on day three at Tunbridge Wells.
With Kent resuming on 274-5, Stevens batted through the rain-shortened day to take the home side to 478-6.
James Tredwell (115) also completed a century in a sixth-wicket partnership of 270 with Stevens.
The weather forced an early close with Kent leading by 16 runs, leaving a draw as the most likely outcome.
Stevens began the day unbeaten on 80 with Tredwell 35 not out and by mid-afternoon the pair had taken their stand, at 102 overnight, past the 58-year-old ground record partnership of 233 between Dickie Mayes and Bill Murray-Wood against Sussex in 1952.
Tredwell, who hit 19 fours in his first three-figure score of 2010, eventually departed when he clipped a return catch to Nottinghamshire's debutant spinner Graeme White.
Storm clouds and heavy showers arrived soon after to drive the players in for an early tea, from which they never returned.
It leaves Stevens, who now has more than 700 Championship runs to his name in 2010, 27 short of his highest first-class score of 208.
