Century stands bolster Glamorgan

LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Cardiff:
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Glamorgan 363-8 v Surrey
(Glamorgan 3 pts, Surrey 3 pts)

Match scorecard

Gareth Rees of Glamorgan
Gareth Rees top-scored for Glamorgan with 86 before falling to Chris Tremlett

Openers Mark Cosgrove and Gareth Rees provided the foundations for Glamorgan to post a decent first innings total of 363-8 against Surrey in Cardiff.

The pair put on 135 for the first wicket before Cosgrove (82) fell to South African Stuart Meaker.

After Rees went for 86, the middle order struggled until Mark Wallace (58) and James Harris (49) built another century stand for the seventh wicket.

Jade Dernbach (4-76) was Surrey's best bowler as Glamorgan batted all day.

Resuming the day on 19-0 Cosgrove and Rees looked to pick up where they left off in an unbeaten stand of 198 against Leicestershire last week.

Cosgrove rode his luck early on as he was dropped twice - first by Dernbach on 18 and then by Gareth Batty on 21.

Glamorgan were made to rue those missed chances as he progressed to his half-century from 74 balls - breaking his bat handle in the process as he smashed Meaker through the covers to bring up his 50.

Meaker eventually brought his innings to an end before bowling Jamie Dalrymple off an edge in the last over before lunch.

The home side slumped from 204-2 to 247-6 but Wallace and Harris combined well to push them on to a competitive total.
