Stubbins is English-born but raised in Australia |
Shropshire have signed ex-Derbyshire left hander Steve Stubbings to try to help them into the quarter-finals of the Minor Counties Trophy. Stubbings has joined as a relief pro for the absent Chris Murtagh for the tie with Staffordshire on 23 May. "We tied up his registration quite late but in time for the match," secretary Peter Dawson told BBC Radio Shropshire "It's a vital game for us and Staffordshire. Whoever wins gets through to the quarter-finals." Stubbings, 32, was released by Derbyshire in September 2009, after 12 years at the club. He was awarded his county cap in 2001 and was voted the county's player of the season that year. He was awarded a benefit in 2008. He plays club cricket with Shropshire's other professional Andy Gray at Alvaston and Boulton, in the city of Derby.
