LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Trent Bridge: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Nottinghamshire 270 Hampshire 305 Notts 5pts, Hants 6pts Match scorecard
Jimmy Adams's 96 helped Hampshire edge their opponents on day two |
Hampshire edged ahead at Nottinghamshire by ending their first innings 35 runs ahead of the hosts. Having started the day on 23-1 in reply to Nottinghamshire's first innings total of 270, opener Jimmy Adams hit 96 as Hampshire were bowled out for 305. The left-hander spent over four hours at the crease, hitting 17 fours before being dismissed by Paul Franks. Neil McKenzie hit 55 while Notts seamer Andre Adams took 4-56 to restrict the visitors' advantage. With the sun helping to provide good batting conditions, Hampshire struggled to build a convincing lead as they failed to lift their run-rate to more than three an over. But the hosts were left frustrated by a third-wicket partnership between Jimmy Adams and Chris Benham (38) of 115 in 50 overs. McKenzie upped the visitors' tempo by hitting 12 boundaries during his 78-ball innings before being trapped lbw by Darren Pattinson. Hampshire secured a third batting point as Sean Ervine, who ended on an unbeaten 31, hit a four through mid-wicket shortly before Andre Adams took the wicket of Rangana Herath to end their innings.
