LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP, DIVISION ONE, Edgbaston: Yorkshire 274 & 291-6 beat Warwickshire 217 & 347 by four wickets Yorkshire 21 pts, Warwicks 4 pts Match scorecard
Rudolph hit 13 fours in his match-winning unbeaten 69 |
A sixth-wicket stand of 153 between Jacques Rudolph and Jonathan Bairstow guided Yorkshire to a four-wicket win over Warwickshire at Edgbaston. The Tykes, who began the final day on 57-1, needing another 234 to win, looked to be heading for defeat when they were reduced to 123-5. But the experienced Rudolph steadied the ship with Bairstow, who hit 81. Although Neil Carter removed Bairstow with 15 still needed, Rudolph (69no) and Tim Bresnan saw Yorkshire home. The hard work had, by then, already been done by former South Africa Test batsman Rudolph and 20-year-old wicketkeeper Bairstow, whose stand spanned just 27 overs. It seized the initiative from the Bears, who had seen Carter and Imran Tahir take two wickets each to reach personal milestones. Carter trapped nightwatchman Ajmal Shahzad leg before with his fourth delivery of the day and then picked up his 250th first-class wicket when opener Adam Lyth, unbeaten on 34 overnight, flicked a leg-side catch to Tim Ambrose to depart for 67. And Imran trapped Anthony McGrath lbw and had Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale caught by Jonathan Trott at second slip to bring up his 100th Championship wicket in 20 matches. But neither could knock Rudolph and Bairstow out of their stride as Yorkshire cruised home before tea.
