LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Grace Road: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Leicestershire 395 & 14-1 v Northants 190 & 269 Leics 7pts, Northants 3pts Match scorecard
Former Derbyshire seamer White was the pick of the Leicestershire bowlers |
Leicestershire look set to wrap up an easy victory on the fourth morning after bowling Northants out for a second time on day three at Grace Road. After adding just 11 more to their overnight total of 179-9, Northants were made to follow on, 205 behind. Only Robert White (68) and David Lucas (40 not out) passed 30 as the visitors were skittled for 269 in 81.4 overs while seamer Wayne White took 4-58. Set 65 to win, the Foxes were 14-1 at the close after losing Matthew Boyce. Captain Matthew Hoggard opted against claiming the extra half-hour, despite the chance of forcing a result within three days - but the good weather forecast for Monday should ensure a win for the county who finished bottom of Division Two last season. Hoggard had wrapped up the Northants first innings in the fifth over of the morning by having last man Lee Daggett caught behind. | 606: DEBATE |
Spinner Claude Henderson, who took 6-21 in the first innings, only captured two wickets second time around but Wayne White, though a little erratic, enjoyed his best first-class figures since joining from Derbyshire, removing three of the top five including his namesake Robert White, who fell at 164-5. Hoggard's hopes of wrapping up a three-day win were frustrated as Lucas hung around, adding an unlikely 52 for the last wicket with Daggett (28) before the number 11 was dismissed for the second time in the day. Lucas captured the wicket of Boyce late on but Will Jefferson and Paul Nixon will look to steer the home side to victory on Monday.
