Veteran spinner Claude Henderson ripped through Northants, taking 6-19 in 18 overs as Leicestershire dominated the second day of their game at Grace Road.

Resuming on 303-5, Leicestershire lost keeper Tom New for 82 while Wayne White was last out for 89 with the hosts on 395 as seamer David Lucas took 5-64.

Pace bowler Andrew Harris removed both openers cheaply before David Sales (39) and Mal Loye (44) staged a recovery.

But slow left-armer Henderson wove his magic as Northants collapsed to 179-9.

Former South Africa Test player Henderson became the first "Kolpak" signing in English cricket in 2004 when he turned his back on his native country to sign for Leicestershire thanks to a loophole in European law which has allowed many of his countrymen to play county cricket without being classed as overseas players.

But he became a British citizen during the winter - and celebrated his new status with a superb spell which began when new skipper Matthew Hoggard gave him the last two overs before tea from the pavilion end.

Henderson took a brilliant return catch from his third ball to remove Sales and end a third-wicket stand of 83 with Loye.

More great catches, including two from James Taylor at short leg, helped Henderson rattle through the Northants line-up - and he will hope to take the final wicket on Sunday morning to emulate his career-best figures of 7-57.
